European Championship for Wind Orchestras (ECWO), 26th May 2018 – Brussels

Vlamo, the Flemish Association of Music Bands and Musicians, is happy to announce the European Championship for Wind Orchestras (ECWO). The upcoming Championship of 2018 will take place on 26th of May 2018 in BOZAR Brussels, Belgium.

During the European Championship for Wind Orchestras top Wind Bands from over 9 European countries will compete. They will give in Brussels their best performance and ultimately win the title of European Champion!
This exceptional gathering for enthusiasts of wind music is a unique opportunity to experience, celebrate and acknowledge the many facets of wind music.

The draw for ECWO looks as follows with Mutations (Bart Picqueur) as test piece:

  • 10.15 Lillestrøm Musikkorps for Norway
  • 11.30 Unión Musical Villamayorense for Spain
  • 13.30 Rødovre Concert Band for Denmark
  • 14.45 Uppsala Blåsarsymfoniker for Sweden
  • 16.00 Birmingham Symphonic Winds for United Kingdom
  • 18.00 Harmonie St. Michael van Thorn for The Netherlands
  • 19.15 Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia Rotem for Belgium
  • 20.30 Blasorchester Siebnen for Switzerland
  • 22.00 Award Ceremony

We hope and are exciting to have you with us in Brussels on 26th May 2018 and be dazzled by the intense and multidimensional sounds of a wind orchestra.

Alongside the championship Vlamo organize an International Symposium on 25th May 2018 about ‘The impact of music making on society’. Out from their own experience three speakers will give a unique perspective on this theme: Bill Connor (BASBWE, UK), Harry Reumkes (WMC Kerkrade) and Lukas Pairon (SIMM, Social impact of music making).  More information about the International Symposium will be announced soon.
